| You did it! Together our community not only got all the needed signatures to the county in the short time allotted, but the ballot initiative to create our Parks & Rec district passed with over 70% support. Thank you! This site will soon be updated with our draft Mission and Vision Statement and our draft Strategic Plan. We will want your input on these documents so please check back soon. We'll also be updating this site to reflect ways you can get involved to help us create a district worthy of our community. But for now I'll close with a quote from the chairman of our new Parks and Rec District, Phil Aune: "Community parks are a reflection of a community's faith in the future! The concept of setting aside and developing land for the enjoyment of all who live and visit a community is an expressed love affair that every vibrant community has in common. The most difficult part is getting started - it requires a leap of faith on all of those in the community and extended cooperation at all levels of government, individual benefactors and the private sector. For the residents of the Lake Spokane community, the leap of faith has begun. Now we are actively seeking cooperation and support from everyone to bring the dream to reality. " | |||||||||

We need your help! Our community is trying to establish a Lake Spokane Park and Recreation District the object of which is to provide leisure time activities and recreational facilities of a non-profit nature as a public service to the residents of Stevens County who live within the boundaries of the Nine Mile Falls School District. Among other things this will give us the option to purchase, develop and maintain the 40 acres DNR temporarily removed from their Land Swap. Thanks to strong community support we received more than enough signatures to put this issue on November's ballot. But it still needs to pass before the district can be created. The park and recreation district is the only legal entity that allows this community to own and develop park and recreation areas for our community. There must be a legal entity to receive grants, and have developers help finance our park and recreation areas. There is no cost to the taxpayers to form a Park and Recreation District. If the community wants to purchase and develop park and recreation areas the voters will have an opportunity to vote on funding. Several items are required before a Park & Recreation District can be established:
